Black Market, Chapel Allerton: Small Plates restaurant in stylish Leeds suburb closes after 4 years of enterprise


Clients who made future bookings on the restaurant have been knowledgeable by e-mail that their reservation has been cancelled, with no rationalization given.

The alcohol license of the premises has been transferred to Indian avenue meals chain The Cats Pajamas, who’ve confirmed that they’re opening a restaurant and takeaway on the unit.

The Black Market opened in 2018 within the former Buca di Pizza unit on the Grade II-listed Stratford Home on Steinbeck Lane, and was run by Chef John Mitchell and his accomplice Justina Marseulite. It specialised in small plates and seasonal substances.

The Cats Pajamas, which already has a website in Headingley, mentioned on Fb: “We’re open six days per week (closed on Mondays). We offer a Dine In, Takeaway and Supply service. We even have an important occasion house and outside space with lined seating. Out of doors catering can also be accessible.”

Cat’s Pajamas will open on Tuesday, October 5.
